THE MILL QUILTS

AND COSPLAY

Sewing, Community, and Community Sewing

What?? Quilts AND Cosplay?

Absolutely.

It started for us with a love of sewing. But… we’re self-diagnosed geeks/nerds/dorks. We have performed at Renaissance Festivals as 1500’s characters. Combine that with the love of a good many geeky things: comics, movies, Firefly, TTRPGs, and so on and so forth… we thought “Are there any good places in the area to get good quality cosplay stuff?” Well, around here, the answer is “kinda.” So we decided we would expand our love of sewing and quilting into a store - one that aims to build community between quilters, cosplayers, and sewists of all stripes!

Quilting is a communal act

We believe that quilting is a communal act - historically, quilt tops were made by one person, but quilted together by several people. It was a way of socializing and helping one another all at the same time. That’s how we feel about sewing in general - it should be communal. There should be maker-spaces for sewists to come and share information and ideas.

Whether it’s sewing in one shared space, sitting around a quilting frame laughing as we work. or helping others with how to make a cosplay outfit come out JUST RIGHT, The Mill is here for it.
